2020 and some thoughts

It feels strange to be writing for this blog again.

For the most part, I feel like a completely different person than I used to be, so I don’t know how to maintain any consistency but that’s fine. Fresh starts and changes are welcome here, so let’s get started.

2020 has been a horrible year, as I’m sure we can all agree. I feel like it’s still mid-spring and yet it’s dark and freezing outside by 8pm now. I’m definitely not alone in this feeling, and let’s not even get into how stressful it is to be outside our homes these days. I’ve been back to work since June and nothing has changed in terms of how anxious I feel about working in a retail environment. However, I’m trying to look on the bright side of things and to make sure I look after myself too - something I’m sure all of us are trying to do a lot more nowadays.

There isn’t much to write about either, I travelled to Paris in January, went to a concert in March and have done nothing since, much like everyone else.

I did discover some new hobbies, get my EFL teaching qualification and bake some less than amazing loaves of bread. I also dyed and cut my own hair, and attempted to make my own clothes.

I think the most important thing I’ve done this year is learn to be more okay with myself, though. When you have more time to think about things, you start to think back on past decisions and actions and honestly - that’s scary. But trying to accept my past selves rather than still feel that embarrassment or regret is more important to me now.

The main thing I took away from all that thinking was that I miss creating content for my blog and my videos. It’s always been something I enjoyed doing for just me, and I think that’s something I should hold on to and pour more time and effort into. Otherwise I’ll be missing out on something that makes me happy, and with the year we’ve all collectively experienced, I don’t want to do that anymore.

I hope I can continue writing on this blog, and creating the kind of content that makes me happy, including the vlog I have been working on for the past week. You can watch it here:

Thank you for reading,
